London Interventional Clinic

Our Clinical Partner: London Interventional Clinic

Specialist interventional pain care, coordinated around you.

At SportsHealing, we believe the best outcomes begin with the right expertise at the right stage of a patient’s care. Our partnership with London Interventional Clinic (LIC) creates a trusted route to consultant-led assessment and interventional treatment for painful conditions affecting the spine, joints and wider musculoskeletal system.

The clinic is led by Dr Stephen Humble, Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia. When a SportsHealing patient may benefit from specialist pain assessment or an image-guided procedure, our teams can coordinate care so that the clinical context, treatment priorities and recovery goals remain aligned.

Why SportsHealing works with LIC

Pain can have more than one cause, and the most appropriate next step is not always surgery, rehabilitation or an injection alone. By combining SportsHealing’s expertise in knee, joint and musculoskeletal care with LIC’s interventional pain experience, patients can access a broader, more connected clinical pathway.

  • Consultant-led assessment focused on understanding the likely source of pain.
  • Access to image-guided procedures when clinically appropriate.
  • Clear explanations of treatment options, expected benefits, limitations and aftercare.
  • Coordinated care designed to complement existing orthopaedic, radiology or rehabilitation plans.

Meet Dr Stephen Humble

Founder and Medical Director, London Interventional Clinic

Dr Stephen Humble is a senior NHS Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, with clinical roles at Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London.

His work combines interventional pain medicine, anaesthesia, research and medical education. At LIC, his approach is centred on careful assessment, evidence-based recommendations and proportionate treatment—helping patients understand what may be causing their pain and which options may be appropriate for them.

Having personally experienced painful conditions, Dr Humble brings a strong sense of empathy to his clinical practice. He understands how persistent pain can affect movement, work, sleep and confidence, and aims to give every patient a clear, practical way forward.

DR HUMBLE  “As a physician and a patient myself, I understand what it’s like to suffer from chronic and acute painful conditions. It’s my aim to help individuals with impactful, effective treatments.”

Areas of assessment and treatment

London Interventional Clinic assesses and manages a range of painful spinal and musculoskeletal conditions, including:

  • Back pain, facet joint pain and disc-related symptoms
  • Sciatica and sacroiliac joint pain
  • Osteoarthritis and joint pain
  • Knee pain and selected sports injuries
  • Migraine and headache conditions
  • Persistent pain requiring specialist assessment

Depending on the diagnosis and individual circumstances, recommendations may include further investigation, medication advice, rehabilitation or an image-guided intervention. Procedures are recommended only when clinically appropriate following assessment.

Image-guided interventional treatments

Where an injection or interventional procedure is appropriate, image guidance can help the clinician target the relevant anatomical area with greater precision. LIC provides access to ultrasound-, X-ray- or CT-guided procedures depending on the condition and treatment required.

Treatment options may include image-guided joint injections, epidural injections, facet or sacroiliac joint procedures, selected radiofrequency treatments and injection treatment for chronic migraine. The exact treatment plan, potential benefits, risks and alternatives are discussed with each patient before proceeding.

A connected pathway for SportsHealing patients

The partnership is designed to make specialist referral straightforward. If your SportsHealing clinician believes interventional pain input could support your care, the teams can coordinate the referral and share relevant clinical information with your consent. This helps reduce unnecessary repetition and keeps each stage of treatment connected to your wider recovery goals.

You can also contact London Interventional Clinic directly if you would like to arrange a specialist pain assessment. Please mention that you were referred through SportsHealing so the clinic can support a coordinated pathway.

Important information

Treatment recommendations depend on individual assessment and clinical suitability. No treatment can guarantee a particular outcome. If symptoms are sudden, severe or associated with weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, chest pain or another medical emergency, seek urgent medical help.

FAQs

Do I need a referral to London Interventional Clinic?

Patients may contact LIC directly, although a referral from SportsHealing can help provide relevant clinical context. The clinic team can confirm what information is required when you enquire.

Does a consultation mean I will need an injection?

No. The purpose of the consultation is to assess your symptoms, review any existing investigations and explain suitable next steps. An injection or other procedure is recommended only when clinically appropriate.

Can LIC help if I have already tried physiotherapy or medication?

Yes. LIC commonly assesses patients whose pain has persisted despite conservative treatment. Dr Humble will review what has already been tried and discuss whether further investigation, rehabilitation or an interventional option may be appropriate.

Will SportsHealing remain involved in my care?

Where appropriate and with your consent, the two teams can coordinate care so that any intervention supports your wider orthopaedic or rehabilitation plan.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring relevant clinic letters, imaging reports or scans, a current medication list and details of previous treatments. LIC can advise if any additional information is needed.
